Gel Polish Removal in Alicante

Almost every story that begins "gel ruined my nails" is actually a story about removal. The coating itself sits on top of the plate and does nothing to it. What thins nails, leaves them bendy, white-patched and sensitive to cold, is how the product came off.

There are three ways it happens, and only one of them is fine.

The three methods

Peeling it off at home

The worst option, and the most common. Gel bonds to the top layers of the nail plate. When you lever it off, those layers come with it — visibly. You can usually see the damage as white patches and a plate that flexes more than it should. Recovery takes months, because it only resolves as the nail grows out.

Drilling it off entirely

Fast for the technician — three or four minutes a hand — and popular in high-turnover salons for exactly that reason. The problem is margin for error. Gel and nail plate look similar under a file, and a fraction too deep means you are filing nail. Done repeatedly, this is what produces chronically thin nails in people who have never once peeled a set off themselves.

Soak-off

The bulk of the top coat is reduced with a file to break the seal, then acetone wraps are applied and left until the remaining product genuinely releases and can be lifted away without force. If it needs scraping, it has not soaked long enough and goes back under.

Twenty minutes rather than five. That is the whole difference, and it is what €10–15 buys.

When to book removal on its own

Most people have removal as part of a new set, and that is included in the flow of the appointment. Booking it standalone makes sense when:

• You want a break from coating. A few weeks bare, with the plate treated properly, does genuine good — particularly after a long run of back-to-back sets.
• You are travelling and would rather not leave for three weeks with a set that is about to grow out.
• Something is lifting badly and water has got underneath. Leaving it there is worse than removing it.
• You had it done elsewhere and are not sure what was used. Better removed properly than picked at.

A common and sensible pairing is removal plus a hygienic manicure (€25) — the coating comes off and the nails get tidied and treated in the same visit.

Prices

Where you land in the €10–15 band depends on what is on the nail. Standard gel polish is at the lower end. Thicker builder-type product, several layers, or a set that has already been partly picked at takes longer and sits at the upper end.

Aftercare for bare nails

• Cuticle oil, twice daily for the first week. Acetone is drying by design. Oil restores flexibility quickly.
• Hand cream after every wash. Unglamorous and effective.
• Do not buff the surface smooth. The instinct after removal is to file away any unevenness. Resist it — you would be removing plate that is already at full thickness.
• Give it two weeks before the next set if the nails feel at all sensitive. It is not a long wait and it makes the next application hold better.
