French Manicure in Alicante

French is the most requested finish in the studio and the least forgiving to execute. A solid colour hides a slightly uneven edge; a French line does not. Both hands have to match, all ten smile lines have to sit at the same depth, and the curve has to follow the natural shape of each nail rather than a template.

None of that is difficult in principle. It just cannot be rushed — which is why it is worth understanding how it is priced.

What it costs, honestly

French is not a standalone service. It is a €5–10 finish added to a gel manicure, and quoting only the add-on makes it look far cheaper than it is. Here is the real arithmetic:

Where you land in the €5–10 band depends on the line. A classic white smile is at the lower end. A very thin micro-French, a double line, or a contrasting colour needing more layers to stay opaque sits at the upper end. You are told which before work starts, never after.

• Full hygienic manicure first — cuticle and pterygium removal, shaping, surface preparation. The French goes onto a properly prepared nail or it lifts like any other coating.

Choosing the right French for your nails

Classic white

A defined white tip on a milky or clear base. Most recognisable and most demanding, because white shows every wobble. Best on medium length where the curve has room to breathe.

Micro-French

A very narrow line, one to two millimetres. The version that suits short nails, and the one most requested now. Reads as tidy rather than done.

Coloured French

Black, red, or a tone matched to something you wear often. Same price as white. A black micro-French on a clear base is currently the most requested variation here.

Reverse or double

A line at the cuticle instead of the tip, or two lines together. Top of the €5–10 band because it takes longer.

Who it suits

French works particularly well if you need something that reads as neutral in a professional setting but is clearly deliberate. It photographs well, which matters if your hands appear in work content, and it goes with everything — the practical reason people return to it after cycling through colours.

It is also the most common request from clients visiting the Costa Blanca for a few weeks who want one appointment to cover the whole trip.

Aftercare

• Cuticle oil daily. Less lifting at the base — where French shows regrowth first.
• Gloves for washing up. Prolonged hot water breaks the seal faster than anything else.
• Sunscreen on your hands. Relevant in Alicante — UV can slightly warm a bright white tip over three weeks.
• Rebook at three weeks rather than four. Not because the coating fails, but because a French line makes regrowth visually obvious sooner than a solid colour.
